Join us for the opening reception of “Plant-Based” by Jaime Foster on Friday, August 12th from 6 to 9pm! Wine will be served courtesy of locally-based Mmmm…Just Enjoy. Guests are welcome to walk over to the nearby Blackstone Hotel (636 S Michigan Ave.) to view a custom piece by Jaime that will be on view above the fireplace in the lobby and can purchase a specialty cocktail that evening from Mercat (inside the hotel), created especially for the exhibition.
“Plant-Based” is a series of abstract paintings that explore the textures, patterns and shapes that are found in nature. Jaime’s work takes on a life of its own as the paint blooms, flows, rushes and swirls.
Some works resemble vast glacial landscapes while others contain intricate botanical patterns. The inspiration behind these works is clearly found in nature but Jaime has taken those elements and created abstract visuals that give the subject new life and elicit an emotional response through her use of color and movement. Jaime’s passion for the fact that biodiversity is essential to life and that plants make our existence possible is translated into each work, resulting in a stunning homage to nature.
Jaime Foster is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist living in the Chicagoland area. Following high school, she pursued freelance photography and started a photography business with her husband. After moving to Seattle, the beauty of the Pacific Northwest inspired Jaime to focus on painting. Returning to the midwest, Jaime has continued painting and exhibiting her work over the past 12 years. She is interested in the relationship we have with nature and our environment and how this can affect us on an emotional level. Her paintings feed off the fascination she has with Ecopsychology, Conservation and Biodiversity. Her work has been shown in galleries internationally and can be found in public and private collections.
